The Season to be Grateful
During the Festive Season it’s easy for small business owners to get carried away with all the stress of wrapping up final tasks and getting ready for the Christmas break, but we also think that it’s a wonderful time to be grateful.
Zig Ziglar says: “Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for,” but gratitude doesn’t always come to us naturally, and it often needs to learned and practised. So, these are our tips for turning your feelings of ‘Bah Humbug’ into feelings of gratitude.
Look around you
Look for new things to be grateful for every day. Being quiet and reflecting on the world around you will surely improve your view of it.
Think about your Blessings
In our consumer society, and especially as business owners who are always ambitious to achieve more, it’s easy to focus on what we want - but try to identify one or two things you usually take for granted, and think about how different your life or business would be without it.
Be Generous, Be Kind
It’s part of our nature to look up to and idealise people who are more successful than us, it keeps us motivated and gives us something to work towards. But, it’s also worth reminding yourself of everything you already have and to pay it forward by being generous with your time, knowledge and resources.
Tell people what you are grateful for and how much you appreciate them, it will not only make them feel valued, but also give you the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship.
Look at it Differently
Ask others what they are grateful for. Looking at life from different angles often makes it more difficult to complain as it can put situations into perspective.
Being grateful and in particular expressing it to the people around us, not only makes us feel more energetic and positive in general, but it also encourages us to be more compassionate and kind towards others.
So, as we’re putting the last few presents under the tree and preparing for the Christmas Feast we would also love to take a moment to reflect on everything we’ve been Blessed with and everything we’ve achieved this year; and most importantly to express our gratitude and well wishes to everyone who has supported us in 2016. May your Festive Season be filled with peace, love and happiness in abundance.
